The Regional Secretary for Agriculture and Fisheries, Nuno Maciel, announced that the Regional Government has already published public spending notices in the primary sector exceeding 22 million euros.
Maciel argued that support should reach producers more directly to increase farm profitability. He highlighted the change in regulations for agricultural events, now requiring 20% of expenses to directly benefit farmers, and the application of this orientation in PEPAC funds to boost production and modernize farms.
The recovery of high-altitude fruit farming, including apples, plums, and pears, was also discussed, with prospects for recovery after meteorological difficulties and pests. The Secretary also mentioned the valorization of production through agri-food processing, with a support of one euro per liter for transforming apples, plums, and pears into cider, aiming to increase demand and regional added value.
