In June 2026, Madeira registered 221 deaths, a 13.9% increase compared to the same month the previous year. However, births also rose, with 138 live births in June, a 13.1% growth.
Over the first six months of 2026, deaths decreased by 2.6% to 1,441, while births increased by 9.1% to 867 live births. Despite this positive trend in births, the accumulated natural balance remained negative at -574 people, an improvement from -684 in the same period of 2025.
Marriages also saw a decline, with 122 ceremonies in June (-10.3%) and 496 in the first half of the year (-5.7%). The number of deaths in June 2026 exceeded the pre-pandemic average, indicating a 9.8% mortality excess.
