The Madeira sparkling wine Terras do Avô 2016 Mãe 80, produced by Duarte Caldeira e Filhos, was awarded the Prestige Medal at the 9th Brut Experience International Sparkling Wine Competition. This highest distinction was given after the wine achieved a perfect score of 97 out of 100 possible points.
This result marks the best score ever for a sparkling wine in this competition. The event, which adhered to international regulations, blind-tasted 114 sparkling wines from Portugal and Spain. Six Prestige Medals were awarded, with the remaining wines receiving Gold Medals for scores between 90 and 94.99.
