The Portuguese Institute for the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) has placed Madeira's southern coast and mountainous regions under a yellow rain warning for this Thursday, due to forecasts of showers that may at times be heavy and accompanied by thunderstorms.
The warning applies to both the south coast and the mountains between 9:00 and 15:00 (UTC), and resumes between midnight and 15:00 the following day, Friday, 6 November.
In recent days, authorities have issued several recommendations the public should follow in case of bad weather. Worsening conditions are expected over the weekend.
