The Madeira University Tuna (TUMa) now has new facilities, after approximately a decade operating in a limited space. The move was revealed during a visit by the Regional Secretary for Inclusion, Labour and Youth, Paula Margarido, as part of the Youth Associativism Tour.
The new space will allow the association to have dedicated areas for meetings, management, and rehearsals, improving conditions for the development of its activities. TUMa, with about three decades of existence, currently brings together between 20 and 25 members and maintains ties with former students, having had over 200 members throughout its history. The association has promoted Madeiran academic music and traditions at festivals and gatherings, both within and outside the region.
Paula Margarido highlighted the role of youth associativism in the training and participation of young people, emphasizing the importance of relationships formed in these contexts. The secretary also noted TUMa's contribution to the transmission of academic traditions and the promotion of Madeira. The tuna's activity is supported by the Regional Directorate of Youth, through the Youth Associativism Support Program (PAAJ).
The event also included a session on the transition of young people to active life, with the technician from the Madeira Employment Institute, Ana Martins, presenting job market opportunities and support available for recent graduates. The visit was also attended by the Regional Director of Youth, André Alves, and the Director of Services Carla Berenguer.
