Fátima Maria Rodrigues Abreu, a native of Madeira, has been released in Venezuela after nearly five years of detention. The news was communicated to her family via a message sent to political activist Lídia Albornoz, who was following the case.
According to Albornoz, the release occurred under the Cayapa Plan, granting Fátima Rodrigues full liberty. She had been detained since July 2021, along with her partner, facing charges of alleged extortion and criminal association, which the family states originated from a neighbourhood dispute.
The family reported receiving no effective assistance from Portuguese authorities during her detention.
