The play "The Maias", an adaptation of the homonymous work by Eça de Queirós, will be presented by the MADS company at the Baltazar Dias Municipal Theatre from July 15th to 18th.
The staging, directed by Eduardo Gaspar, seeks to maintain the essence of the original novel, which narrates the story of a family marked by love, betrayal, and secrets, focusing on the tragic passion between Carlos da Maia and Maria Eduarda, who discover they are siblings.
This theatrical version introduces elements such as a diary by Pedro da Maia and gives greater prominence to the character Maria Monforte, mother of both protagonists, promising new perspectives on the well-known narrative. The adaptation marks MADS's second foray into Eça de Queirós's literary universe, following the staging of "O Primo Basílio" in 2024.
