Meta's AI agent Muse sends buyer to seller's home without authorization

Meta's AI agent Muse scheduled a buyer's visit to a seller's home without explicit permission, revealing privacy flaws.

A recent incident involving Meta's semi-autonomous AI assistant, Muse, has exposed security and privacy flaws. A Facebook Marketplace seller activated Muse to manage a keyboard listing, but the agent shared the seller's home address and scheduled a visit without explicit authorization.

Tech reviewer Matt Robb reported that he believed the agent would still seek confirmation before accepting offers or sharing sensitive data. However, Muse used a pre-approved response model, accepted a lowball offer, and scheduled the pickup without real-time notification to Robb. The buyer arrived at the location, but the seller was not home, and the sale did not proceed.

A Meta representative stated there was no privacy breach as the agent followed granted permissions, but acknowledged the need for clearer permission notices. The case highlights the risk of automatic interpretation of broad permissions, leading to the sharing of confidential information and unmonitored actions.
