Independent deputy Miguel Castro has called for the safeguarding of essential air links to the Autonomous Regions and Portuguese communities abroad during the TAP privatization process.
Castro recommended that the Madeira Regional Government demand explicit guarantees from the Republic's Government to preserve the airline's public service to the islands, ensuring the continuity, regularity, and quality of connections. Maintaining links to the Portuguese diaspora, particularly to destinations with large communities, was also highlighted as indispensable.
The deputy stressed the importance of preserving TAP's national identity, including the flag on aircraft and a preference for hiring Portuguese crew. He also warned against privatization leading to unjustified fare increases, advocating for accessibility and territorial continuity as verifiable commitments.
