Madeira's Via Rápida experienced considerable traffic congestion on Thursday morning, with traffic becoming slow shortly after 7:30 AM.
The heavy flow of vehicles, typical for work and school days, is the main cause of the bottleneck, particularly in the Machico - Ribeira Brava direction. Ongoing roadworks at the Cancela junction for widening and improving access also contribute to the slowdown, which extends for approximately 4 km from the Caniço ascent.
No other significant congestion points were reported, but drivers are advised to exercise caution.
