From Monday, the new SIGA route no. 560 will run between Funchal and the Cristo Rei area in Caniço, improving access to public transport in an area with growing residential and tourist demand.
The route starts near the cable car, beside Funchal's Old Town, follows Rua Brigadeiro Oudinot and Campo da Barca, joins the expressway to the Garajau exit, and continues along Estrada do Garajau and Estrada do Cristo Rei to Café Jardim, next to Quinta Splendida. According to a document sent to the newsroom, some routes will be extended to Reis Magos.
The service will operate eight daily trips on weekdays during term, seven during school holidays, and two on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, in both directions. The route stems from an addendum to the public passenger transport concession contract, signed this year by the Regional Government and operator CAM. The addendum also strengthens the Aerobus, the Machico–Santa Cruz–Funchal axis and school transport in Santana and Porto Santo.
