Nuno Henrique exhibition opens at the Torre do Capitão

Artist Nuno Henrique's show “Che cosa sono le nuvole?” opens in Funchal and runs until the end of February 2027.

The Torre do Capitão – Santo Amaro Historical and Museum Centre opens its doors tomorrow, 5 November, at 5:30 p.m., for the exhibition “Che cosa sono le nuvole?” by visual artist Nuno Henrique. Regional Secretary for Tourism, Environment and Culture Eduardo Jesus will attend the opening.

The show is the first stop of its national tour in Madeira, following its presentation at Galeria 111 in Lisbon between May and June 2025. With texts by Óscar Faria and Dinarte Teixeira, it reflects on ecology, art and the fragility of beauty, and will remain on view until the end of February 2027.

The work takes as its starting point the Wollastonaria turricula, a vulnerable endemic snail that lives on the volcanic rocks of Ilhéu de Cima, off Porto Santo. The installation brings together sculptures and drawings made from materials including card, plexiglass, paper, plaster, wood and ceramic.

Born in Funchal in 1982 and based in New York for about a decade, Nuno Henrique holds a degree in sculpture from the University of Porto and a master's from the Pratt Institute. His work is held in public and private collections.
