During the celebration of the 448th anniversary of the parish of Canhas, Regional Secretary for Agriculture and Fisheries, Nuno Maciel, highlighted the local development driven by investment in agriculture, irrigation, and housing.

Maciel presented 2025 data, showing 135 banana producers with a harvest exceeding 1.47 million kilograms, generating over 1.6 million euros. The parish also stands out in sugarcane production, contributing significantly to the total for the Ponta do Sol municipality.

The Regional Secretary mentioned the impact of community support, such as PRODERAM, which approved 55 applications in Canhas with an investment of 6.7 million euros. New investment opportunities were also announced through the Strategic Plan for the Common Agricultural Policy (PEPAC), and investments in irrigation infrastructure, including a new reservoir, were highlighted.

In addition to agriculture, Nuno Maciel emphasized housing support, with a 30-unit development underway, funded by the Recovery and Resilience Plan. He stressed the need to combine public and private investment policies to boost the parish's development, praising local dynamism and congratulating residents on the anniversary.
