The Open University in Madeira celebrated its Degree Blessing and "Queima das Fitas" (a traditional student celebration) on July 11th for approximately 34 graduating students from Madeira and Porto Santo. This year is notable for the highest number of graduates ever for the institution in the Region.
The ceremony began at the Igreja do Colégio with the Degree Blessing, followed by the traditional "Queima das Fitas" at the Hotel Jardins d'Ajuda. The festivities concluded with a celebratory dinner.
Tânia Olival, delegate for the Open University's Academic Association for Madeira and Porto Santo, highlighted the students' achievement as an example of "courage, resilience, and overcoming challenges," acknowledging the difficulties in balancing academic, professional, and family life.
