The Regional Secretary for Inclusion, Labor, and Youth, Paula Margarido, participated in the Grandparents' Day celebrations held at the Nazaré Urban Park in Funchal. The event featured an intergenerational picnic bringing together grandparents, grandchildren, families, and volunteers, a joint initiative by several associations.
Margarido praised the event as an example of bringing generations closer, strengthening family ties, and combating loneliness. She highlighted grandparents as the "living memory" of families and the community, keepers of irreplaceable stories, traditions, and values.
The official stressed that intergenerational contact promotes active aging, strengthens families, and builds a more inclusive society. The work of the Volunteer House Association in promoting volunteering and active citizenship was also acknowledged.
