The Portuguese Communist Party (PCP) has criticized the State Budget proposal for 2027, stating it "does not respond to the needs" of Madeira and Porto Santo.
The party advocates for a set of specific measures for the region, covering regional financing, housing, transport, public services, and workers' rights. The PCP argues that the government's proposal does not address the costs of insularity and ultra-peripherality, nor does it ensure the principle of territorial continuity.
Among the proposals are a review of the Regional Finance Law, increased funding for the University of Madeira, a guaranteed passenger maritime link with the mainland, reduced airport taxes, and housing support. The party also calls for the insularity subsidy to be granted to Central Public Administration workers and the application of the regional minimum wage. Measures to strengthen human resources in courts, the PSP, and home care services, as well as the regularization of precarious employment at RTP-Madeira and the requalification of various state facilities, were also mentioned. The PCP has pledged to defend these proposals during the 2027 State Budget discussions.
