The Portuguese Communist Party (PCP) in Madeira has called for a maximum price of €20, including taxes, for a 13-kilogram butane gas cylinder. The regional party argues that current prices represent a significant burden on household budgets.
During an event on Rua Dr. Fernão Ornelas in Funchal on October 7th, Ricardo Lume, representing the party, highlighted the price difference between Madeira and the Azores. According to figures presented, a 13kg cylinder costs €31.87 in Funchal, compared to €23.50 in Ponta Delgada, a difference of €8.37.
"It is not acceptable that a Madeiran family has to pay €8 more for a 13-kilogram gas cylinder," Lume stated, demanding intervention to lower prices. In September, the PCP had already submitted a bill to the Assembly of the Republic aiming to establish a maximum retail price of €20 for the 13kg butane gas cylinder, including taxes.
