The Portuguese Communist Party (PCP) held an event near Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital to show solidarity with the workers of the Regional Health Service (SESARAM). Party leader Ricardo Lume criticized the Regional Government for "unfulfilled promises" leading to deteriorating working conditions and staff shortages.
The PCP pointed out specific issues, including the long wait for career updates for Higher Technicians in Diagnostics and Therapeutics, demands for hiring new nurses, and staff shortages, low wages, and payment problems for overtime for Operational Assistants and Health Auxiliary Technicians. Doctors also face resource shortages and irregular schedules.
Ricardo Lume stressed that the widespread issues within SESARAM are pressuring staff and compromising public service. The party called for health professionals to mobilize in protest days and strikes organized by unions, arguing that valuing workers is crucial for a better healthcare service for the population.
