The Pestana Group is concentrating its expansion efforts on European countries, while not ruling out new investment opportunities in Madeira should interesting proposals arise. Hotel group administrator Paulo Prada stated that the group's home island continues to hold strategic importance, even if it is not the main focus for growth at present.
This statement follows the inauguration of Pestana Dunas in Porto Santo, the 18th Pestana unit in the Autonomous Region of Madeira, bringing the total number of rooms in the archipelago to around 3,600. The group seeks to diversify its investments geographically but acknowledges there is still room for growth in Porto Santo, with capacity to add approximately 180 rooms.
The second phase of the Pestana Dunas project, which includes more rooms, has been approved, but its realization depends on improved air connectivity for Porto Santo. Prada believes the island still has potential to explore new source markets, such as Germany and other Central European countries.
