The local PS committee in Ponta do Sol has expressed surprise regarding the Municipal Chamber's announcement, led by Rui Marques (PSD), that the new PSP police station will cost 4.5 million euros. This figure is double the initial projection, which the municipality attributes to changes in the initial project.
The socialists argue that there have been no substantial project alterations to justify this cost doubling, even considering inflation. The party demands public clarification from the Mayor and a copy of the preliminary report on the execution project review. The PS fears the construction could be delayed or jeopardized by this price increase.
The statement recalls that the police station project was ready in 2023 and approved by the General Secretariat of the Ministry of Internal Administration (SGMAI). The tender launched that year, for approximately two million euros, was unsuccessful. An updated value proposal of 2.6 million euros was deemed inadequate by the SGMAI, which required a review of the execution project.
