The Public Prosecutor's Office presented a 48-year-old man for his first judicial interrogation on June 29. A resident of Porto da Cruz, Madeira, the defendant is accused of sexual abuse of a person incapable of resistance, simple bodily harm, and coercion.
The victim is the defendant's 92-year-old mother, who suffers from dementia and Alzheimer's and is completely dependent on others. The man allegedly took advantage of the absence of his sister, who cares for their mother, to commit the acts. The sister surprised the defendant, who allegedly reacted with threats and physical assault against her when confronted.
Following the judicial interrogation, the defendant was placed in preventive custody. The investigation is under judicial secrecy and is being conducted by the DIAP of Santa Cruz, with the support of the Judicial Police.
