Porto Santo Golf Course: Data Contradicts Notion of Low Usage

A social media post questioned the need to expand the Porto Santo Golf Course, suggesting the facility was underutilized.

However, 2025 data shows the course recorded 39,749 rounds, an all-time high, with 28% growth since 2022. On average, over a hundred rounds were played daily, though demand is seasonal, peaking between January-May and September-December.

Revenue for the course in 2025 neared €1.5 million, with a net profit exceeding half a million. Golfers from 37 nationalities visited, notably from Denmark. The second phase expansion is justified by a study projecting an annual economic impact of €26 million on the island.
