The Porto Santo School is hosting the fifth edition of the Festa da Escola, an initiative by Porta 33 that blends contemporary art, ecology, pedagogy, gastronomy, and local knowledge. The event engages various island spaces and the community, also signifying a move into a new programming cycle after four years.
Hélder Folgado of Porta 33 described the festival as a "moment of fusion" and "passage between dimensions," suggesting openness to new programming directions. Licínia Soares, manager of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in Porto Santo, emphasized the School of the Village's role as a community space vital for preserving memory and involving residents in future building, aligning with the Biosphere Reserve's broader concept of culture and lifestyle.
The free program features exhibitions, performances, talks, workshops, music, and gastronomy. The official opening included remarks from representatives of the Directorate-General for the Arts, the Regional Directorate of Culture, the Biosphere Reserve, and Porta 33. The first day included the inaugural tour of 'O Desfazer do Tempo' and the performance 'PULSAR Encontro,' developed with local participants.
