PPM Madeira publicly voiced its concern regarding the increase in road accidents in the region, noting that this year's figures have already surpassed those of 2019, a year considered the worst for road fatalities on Madeira's roads.
The monarchist party acknowledges a petition for fixed speed cameras on the Via Rápida (VR1) but deems this measure insufficient on its own. PPM advocates for enhanced enforcement through mobile speed cameras and a more consistent police presence on roads, arguing that fixed cameras only monitor specific locations and that risky drivers can adapt their behavior.
According to PPM Madeira coordinator Paulo Brito, mobile units are crucial for preventing speeding and red-light running, covering various roads and scenarios. The party believes that strengthening police resources, including broader enforcement, is essential to reduce accidents and fatalities on the region's roads.
