Socialist Party (PS) deputies in Madeira have requested information from the Regional Secretary of Health and Civil Protection regarding medication circuit management within the Regional Health Service (SESARAM). The PS states that a crucial system, Unit Dose dispensing, is being compromised by a shortage of pharmacy technicians in hospital services.
This request follows a meeting with the National Union of Health Technicians (STSS), which indicated that the staff shortage has persisted for about a year, exacerbated by staff departures and the need to reallocate technicians to new areas, such as the Cytotoxic Preparation Unit.
The PS seeks details on the current coverage of Daily Individual Unit Dose Distribution, whether any medications or services are affected by the technician shortage, and information on the human resources within the Pharmacy Services, including identified needs and vacant positions. They also inquire about difficulties in accessing psychiatric medications at health centers.
