PS Demands Explanations on Madeira Hospital's Third Phase Cost and State Funding

The president of PS-Madeira, Célia Pessegueiro, has reiterated calls for the disclosure of calculations behind the €415 million budget for the third phase of Madeira's new hospital. She criticized the Regional Government for failing to secure 50% state funding during negotiations with the Prime Minister.

Pessegueiro requested a detailed breakdown of quantities and costs for comparison with previous tenders, noting the price base increased from €265 million last August to €415 million within ten months. The socialist leader expressed concern over the absence of state co-financing guarantees in the 2027 State Budget, as it refers to an outdated 2018 ordinance.

The PS attributes political responsibility to the PSD-led Regional Government for delays and cost increases, warning that this could postpone the project and jeopardize other regional investments. The issue of high-rise construction was also discussed, deemed technically feasible but not cost-reducing, along with the career progression of technical engineers.
