The Socialist Party (PS) of Madeira intends to request a parliamentary hearing for the Regional Secretary of Education, Science and Technology, Elsa Fernandes. The request aims to clarify the alleged shortage of teachers in some schools and the delays in the delivery of digital manuals at the start of the academic year.
According to Célia Pessegueiro, president of PS-Madeira, some schools and subjects lack teachers, and there are insufficient educators for substitutions, resulting in missed classes. The socialist party also seeks explanations for the delays in providing computers and tablets, with students reportedly receiving equipment only this week, a full week after classes began.
The PS also criticizes the responsibility placed on schools and teachers for formatting and updating the devices. The call for a hearing follows a written request by the PS for information on various educational matters, for which the regional secretary stated responses would only be provided at the end of October.
