PS deputy Sílvia Sousa Silva has stirred controversy over the Curral das Freiras cable car project, accusing the Câmara Municipal de Câmara de Lobos of inconsistency and yielding to external interests.
According to the deputy, the project did not fit within the current Municipal Master Plan (PDM), which classified the intervention areas as forest and high natural value spaces where construction was not permitted. The criticism suggests the approval may have resulted from a political decision, possibly in exchange for the creation of about one hundred parking spaces.
The debate highlights tensions between economic development, tourism, and environmental preservation, with the deputy questioning the decision-making model and the alleged imposition of projects, even with unfavorable technical opinions.
