PS/M deputies have questioned the Regional Secretary for Health and Civil Protection, Micaela Freitas, about the management of the medication circuit and the Unit Dosing system at the Regional Health Service (SESARAM).
The request follows a meeting with the National Union of Higher Health Technicians (STSS), which highlighted a shortage of pharmacy technicians at Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital. According to the union, this deficit, ongoing for about a year and worsened by staff departures and the reassignment of technicians to new areas like the Cytotoxic Preparation Unit, is impacting medication distribution, expiry date control, stock management, and requisition preparation.
PS/M seeks details on current Unit Dosing coverage, whether any medications or services are affected by the technician shortage, and information on medication acquisition, management, stock levels, returns, losses, waste, and incidents within the medication circuit. They also requested data on Pharmacy Services human resources, including the number of technicians, identified needs, vacant positions, departures, overtime, and the impact of technician reassignment to the Cytotoxic Preparation Unit.
