The president of PS-Madeira, Célia Pessegueiro, criticized the Regional Government for, in her view, "not adopting structural measures to reduce the cost of living" in the Region.
Pessegueiro pointed to investments in golf courses and cable cars as examples of expenses she believes do not meet the needs of families. The socialist leader was speaking on the sidelines of the party's Political Commission meeting, on the eve of the start of another legislative session in the Legislative Assembly of Madeira.
Among the measures advocated by the PS are a reduction in the Tax on Petroleum Products (ISP), strengthening public transport, and lowering pass prices. The party also proposes transferring part of the VAT revenue collected in the accommodation, catering, and services sectors to local councils, enabling them to create programs for the recovery of dilapidated properties and thus support families.
