The PSD-Madeira Parliamentary Group presented a Vote of Congratulations in the Legislative Assembly of Madeira to young athlete João Lourenço Viveiros.
Viveiros, from Ludens Clube de Machico, became the Junior European Champion in Sprint and Technical Race at the championship held in Agios Nikolaos, Greece, representing Portugal. He also became the first junior European champion in the history of the Sprint discipline, which was included in the championship program this year.
The social democrats highlighted his "international affirmation that has been gaining consistency," recalling his two gold medals at the Stand Up Paddle World Cup in 2026 and the junior world vice-champion title in 2025. The parliamentary group also emphasized the quality of work by the region's clubs and sports structures.
