PSD-Machico Proposes PDM Suspension to Unblock Housing and Investment

Elected PSD councilors in the Machico municipality argued during a council meeting for an urgent evaluation of a partial, exceptional, and temporary suspension of the Municipal Master Plan (PDM).

The aim is to unblock housing projects, safeguard emerging investments, and create conditions for more effective and sustainable economic and tourism development in the municipality. According to the PSD, the proposal arises from the need to adapt the PDM to new economic, social, demographic, and territorial realities, as the current plan was developed in a different context.

The social democrats regret that the proposal was not accepted, criticizing the delay and the flight of investment from Machico. They argue that while the PDM revision is essential, it is a complex and lengthy process, and the municipality should find solutions for urgent needs during this transition period. The proposal aimed to prioritize affordable housing and facilitate business and tourism investments.
