The Public Security Police (PSP) seized two firearms, ammunition, and a knife from a man in his 60s in Santana, following concerns for his welfare.

Police were called on Tuesday afternoon after members of the public reportedly found the man in an apparent state of intoxication and emotional distress, fearing he might harm himself.

The weapons and ammunition were taken into precautionary custody. The man was identified and transported under police escort to Dr Nélio Mendonça Hospital in Funchal, where the Psychiatry Department assessed him.
