Region Confident in Republic's 50% Contribution for New Hospital

The Regional Secretary for Equipment and Infrastructure, Pedro Rodrigues, expressed confidence that the Republic's Government will ensure 50% of the updated funding for the construction of the new Madeira Central and University Hospital.

Rodrigues explained that the reallocation of costs needs updating due to the increased estimated cost of the project, now standing at 415 million euros. The Council of Ministers' resolution maintains the 50% guarantee, but the figures must be adjusted to the actual cost of the undertaking.

Bids from competitors for the public tender are expected by the end of this month. The official acknowledged that the project's cost has nearly doubled from initial estimates, attributing the rise to increased expenses in construction, energy, fuel, and the international supply chain.
