The Porta a Porta movement will hold a demonstration for the right to housing on 14 November at 11am on Rua Fernão de Ornelas, in Funchal.
According to the organisers, housing should be guaranteed to everyone as a fundamental human right rather than treated solely as a market commodity. They point to the difficulties faced by workers, young people, families and older residents as house prices and rents, they say, have moved away from local incomes.
The initiative aims to raise awareness of the issue and press political leaders for concrete measures.
