Rigo 23 opens 'February 31st with Ribeira Seca II' exhibition at Quinta do Revoredo

The Quinta do Revoredo Cultural Center in Santa Cruz hosts Rigo 23's 'February 31st with Ribeira Seca II' exhibition from October 16 to January 9, 2027.

The Quinta do Revoredo Cultural Center in Santa Cruz will host the exhibition “February 31st with Ribeira Seca II” by Madeiran artist Rigo 23, from October 16 to January 9, 2027. The show revisits and reworks pieces previously shown in Porto in 2025.

The exhibition also serves as a tribute to the recently deceased Father José Martins Júnior (1938–2025), a significant figure in Madeiran public life and parish priest of the Ribeira Seca community for over fifty years, known for his civic and social engagement.

Rigo 23 interacts directly with the exhibition space, fostering a connection between the location, memory, and the artworks, which include drawings and embroidery. The exhibition explores writing, speech, and sight, influenced by António Aragão's ideas on the relationship between seeing and reading.

Amidst global turbulence, the artist turns to a more intimate sphere, returning to origins as an act of resistance. Collaboration with the Ribeira Seca community, particularly with embroiderer Maria Franco and her daughter Paula Góis, is central to this work.
