During an official visit to Venezuela, Sancho Gomes, Regional Director for Communities and External Cooperation, met with the Chargé d'Affaires of the Portuguese Embassy in Caracas, Rúben Guedes Dias. The meeting, attended by representatives of the Madeiran diaspora, focused on economic and educational cooperation opportunities, municipal twinning, and strengthening the Region's participation in diaspora affairs.
Gomes acknowledged the Regional Government's appreciation for the Embassy's work with the Portuguese and Madeiran community, particularly following the June 27 earthquakes, highlighting solidarity and support initiatives. The discussion also explored economic cooperation potential between Madeiran and Portuguese entrepreneurs in Venezuela, aiming for the internationalization of Madeiran companies.
Furthermore, strengthening coordination between the Regional Government and national authorities in countries with significant Madeiran communities was addressed, advocating for greater regional involvement to enhance diaspora engagement. A cooperation protocol between the University of Madeira and the Central University of Venezuela is currently awaiting validation.
