Santa Cruz Tests Watch to Monitor Isolated Elderly

The Santa Cruz Municipal Council has initiated a pilot project to monitor elderly individuals living in isolation. The initiative involves providing a smart watch capable of tracking various health parameters and triggering assistance in emergency situations.

The device connects to the council's social services during the day and the fire department at night. It measures skin temperature, heart rate, blood pressure, and oxygen levels, and monitors sleep patterns. If a fall occurs or parameters reach alert levels, the system can notify emergency services.

Initially, the project will involve two elderly residents. If the trial proves successful, the council plans to acquire more devices based on the identified needs of the isolated elderly population.
