The vessel Santa Maria Manuela has left Pier 6 of Funchal Port, commencing the first stage of the Madeira Ocean 2026 Expedition. The ship is now heading towards the Desertas Islands.
Upon arrival, scientific teams will begin the research activities planned for this expedition. The operation, running until October 28th, involves approximately 200 participants, over 10 vessels, and national and international scientific teams.
The primary goal is to deepen the understanding of the marine ecosystems of Madeira, Porto Santo, and the Desertas.
