The implementation of a tourist tax in the municipality of São Vicente is expected to become a significant new revenue stream for municipal accounts, with an estimated annual collection of around €600,000.
The mayor argued that while tourism is vital to the local economy, the activity should also help cover expenses and improve services for residents. "We want to continue welcoming our visitors well. But we also want tourist investment to contribute to improving the territory, services, and living conditions for those who reside here year-round," he stated.
Furthermore, the commencement of the review process for the Municipal Master Plan was announced, deemed essential for defining the municipality's future development strategy. The president acknowledged that while progress has been made in the first ten months, "there is still much to be done."
