DECO PROteste has issued a warning about a new scam targeting bank users. Criminals are sending fake letters, appearing to be from legitimate banks, which include a new card and activation instructions.
These fraudulent letters contain a QR code. When scanned, this code directs the victim to a fake website mimicking the bank's, aiming to collect personal and banking details. The letters may include customer information like name and card expiry date, making them more convincing and creating a sense of urgency for activation to avoid account blocking.
Banks typically mail new cards, with activation done via the bank's app or homebanking. DECO PROteste advises consumers to be wary of QR codes on bank letters and to access banking services directly through the bank's official website or a known phone number. Phrases like "urgent" or "do immediately" should raise suspicion.
