The requalification and modernization of the Socorridos Pumping Station, part of the technological update of the Socorridos Reversible Hydroelectric Plant, is underway. The intervention, led by the Madeira Electricity Company, aims to update and reinforce the station's operation by overhauling critical equipment and modernizing essential systems.
Regional Secretary for Equipment and Infrastructure, Pedro Rodrigues, visited the facility, which includes upgrading pumps, command and control systems, and improving valves and auxiliary equipment. The associated Pumping Station, which recycles water back to the load chamber, is being completely remodeled with €3.2 million in support from the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR).
Operational since 1994, the Socorridos Hydroelectric Plant has a total capacity of 24 MW, making it the second largest in the region. Pedro Rodrigues emphasized the importance of this upgrade for strengthening renewable hydropower production, contributing to the efficiency of the regional electrical system and meeting PRR targets, thereby enhancing operational reliability, efficiency, and safety.
