Swimming area south of Aquapark closed following monk seal sighting

The Santa Cruz City Hall announced the temporary closure of the bathing area south of the Aquapark, next to the marina and São Fernando Beach. The measure was taken after a monk seal was sighted this Sunday.

Although the animal is generally not aggressive towards humans, safety measures have been implemented as a precaution. The aim is to ensure the safety of bathers and the well-being of the animal, according to a statement released by the municipality on social media.

The City Hall urges the public to respect the signage and instructions from the authorities, and has issued several recommendations for beachgoers.
