Heavy rain affecting Madeira has pushed Pico do Areeiro to red alert levels, with 85.3 litres per square metre accumulated in six hours.
At Chão do Areeiro, rainfall reached 84.7 litres over the same period. Figures reported up to 8:00 AM on Sunday show that Pico do Areeiro recorded 60 litres in just three hours.
This reached the red alert level in half the time considered by the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA).
