Venezuelans have boosted Madeira's economy, says Regional Government President

The President of the Regional Government, Miguel Albuquerque, stated that the arrival of Venezuelan entrepreneurs in Madeira has been an important factor in stimulating the regional economy. He pointed to private investment, job creation, and the opening of new businesses as clear signs of this contribution.

Albuquerque highlighted the role of Madeirans and descendants of Portuguese from Venezuela, recalling that around 11,000 "fellow citizens" arrived in the Region in 2019. According to the official, this migratory wave brought work capacity, investment, and wealth, with many migrants possessing business experience that strengthened the local economic fabric.

The entrepreneur Francisco, responsible for opening the Lucca Italian Cuisine restaurant, was cited as an example. Albuquerque believes this type of investment demonstrates entrepreneurs' confidence in Madeira and helps consolidate the regional economy, in addition to creating jobs and having a multiplier effect. He advocated for a Madeira that is "open" to the outside, as the Region's development depends on welcoming investment and private initiative.
