A 24-year-old man, identified as P. Andrade, has been sentenced to six years in prison by the Funchal court. The sentence was handed down for the crimes of attempted homicide and assault.

The incident took place in the early hours of June 29, 2025, during the São Pedro festival in Ribeira Brava. The defendant, who was intoxicated, stabbed two men without apparent reason. One of the victims was a 25-year-old PSP police officer who was on holiday on the island.

The court noted that the young man had a prior criminal record for a similar offense, having been convicted in 2021 for attempting to murder his own brother. At that time, his sentence was suspended on the condition that he undergo treatment for drug addiction.
