Sixteen recruits from Funchal have completed the first phase of their Initial Training for Entry into the Sapper Firefighter Career, which took place over six months at the Lisbon Sapper Firefighter Regiment School.
The training involved a total of 42 recruits from across the country and included demonstrations of technical skills in rescue, extrication, pre-hospital emergency care, and hazardous materials response.
The future sapper firefighters now return to Funchal for a second six-month phase, which will be conducted in a work context within the local Sapper Firefighter Company, before the final completion of their training.
