The 51st Tour of Madeira Cycling Race, the region's premier cycling event, has registered 74 participants for its 2026 edition. Of these, 34 are from outside the Autonomous Region of Madeira.
The race will consist of 13 teams, with a total of 69 male cyclists and five female cyclists. Organizers highlighted the participation of three national champions and two Portuguese Cup road race winners. The event spans six stages covering 210 km, taking place from July 15th to 19th. Notably, the route will not include any sections of the express highway, following adjustments made by the Regional Directorate of Roads.
Volta director Vítor Jesus described the list of participants as "one of the best ever" for the Tour of Madeira, anticipating a challenging yet successful competition. Regional Sports Director David Gomes encouraged the Madeira Cycling Association to consider dedicating a future day of the race to the island of Porto Santo, with support from the Regional Government.
