The 5th Porto Santo Podengo Dog Show will be held on October 30th and 31st. The event is organized by the Casa do Povo de Nossa Senhora da Piedade do Porto Santo, with support from the Regional Government of Madeira and the Porto Santo Municipal Council.
This edition is particularly significant as the characterization study of the Porto Santo Podengo is complete, and documentation for its recognition as an autochthonous Portuguese breed has been submitted to the Portuguese Cynological Club. The program includes a conference on the 30th and a dog parade on the 31st, with videos about the breed, traditional gastronomy, and musical entertainment.
Organizers invite Podengo owners from Madeira to participate, and those interested in the parade should contact the Casa do Povo by October 26th. The event aims to raise awareness for the preservation of this genetic, historical, and cultural heritage.
