Ponto e Vírgula 2026/2027 Edition Launch Encourages Critical Thinking

The Rectory of the University of Madeira hosted the launch of the 2026/2027 edition of Ponto e Vírgula, which this year adopts a new format of jornadas (journeys/sessions). The project, which for twelve years has produced a monthly supplement in DIÁRIO with content created by students for students, also involves the Regional Secretariat for Education, Science and Technology, Plaza Madeira, and Meo.

Elsa Fernandes, Regional Secretary for Education, Science and Technology, highlighted at the event's opening the importance of developing critical thinking in students, warning about the need to distinguish information from opinion on social media and digital platforms. She invited teachers to work on this aspect with students, emphasizing that school should extend beyond the classroom.

The jornadas aim to strengthen the project's connection and visibility, which covers all 15 secondary schools in the Region, each with two correspondents. The event included the presentation of the project's ambassadors and the signing of a protocol between institutions. Ricardo Oliveira, director of DIÁRIO, stressed the opportunity Ponto e Vírgula offers to generate impact, discover talents, and raise awareness, encouraging young people to be curious and think for themselves.
